How Our SMS Opt-In Works

14 Acres Vineyard and Winery uses SMS to send transactional messages, including reservation confirmations, secure payment links, and payment receipts, to customers who have called our business to inquire about or make a reservation. This page documents our complete opt-in process so that our customers and regulatory reviewers can clearly understand how we obtain and document consent before sending any SMS messages.

Step-by-Step Opt-In Flow

Step 1 — Customer initiates contact

A customer calls our business at +1 (360) 309-0773 to inquire about wines, food, events, or to make a reservation. All calls are answered by our virtual receptionist (AI agent).

Step 2 — Age verification (21+ confirmation)

Before any reservation can be created or any SMS sent, our virtual receptionist explicitly asks the caller to verbally confirm they are 21 years of age or older. This is a required step because 14 Acres is an alcohol-serving establishment.

The receptionist says, verbatim:

“Since we are a wine-serving establishment, I just need to confirm that you, as the primary guest making the reservation, are 21 or older. Younger family members are absolutely welcome to join you and can enjoy our food and non-alcoholic drinks — we just cannot serve wine, beer, or cider to anyone under 21.”

If the caller confirms they are 21 or older, the receptionist proceeds. If the caller indicates they are under 21, no reservation is created and no SMS is sent. The receptionist suggests that a parent or guardian make the reservation on their behalf.

Step 3 — Collection of cell phone number with explicit consent

After verbal age confirmation, the receptionist asks the caller for their full name, cell phone number, and email address. The receptionist informs the caller, verbatim:

“We will text you to confirm availability and send a secure payment link. Our team responds between 10am and 10pm Pacific Time. Message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP at any time to opt out of further messages.”

By providing their cell phone number after this disclosure, the customer is granting verbal consent to receive transactional SMS messages from 14 Acres Vineyard and Winery related to their reservation.

Step 4 — Opt-in confirmation SMS (first message)

Within minutes of the call ending (during business hours, 10am–10pm PT), the customer receives the first SMS, which serves as opt-in confirmation:

“14 Acres Vineyard and Winery: You confirmed you are 21+ during your call. You are now opted-in to transactional reservation messages. We will text you shortly with availability and, if approved, a secure $50 payment link. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt-out.”

Step 5 — Reservation availability confirmation

A team member verifies seating availability for the customer’s requested date, time, and seating preference. They reply YES or NO via internal SMS, which triggers the next customer-facing message.

Step 6 — Secure payment link (if available)

If the requested time is available, the customer receives a Clover-hosted secure payment link for the required $50 reservation deposit. The customer has 30 minutes to complete payment.

Step 7 — Payment confirmation (after successful payment)

After successful payment, the customer receives a final SMS confirming their reservation is fully confirmed.

Step 8 — Visit completion

The customer visits 14 Acres for their reservation. The $50 deposit is applied as credit toward their final tab.

Required Disclosures

Program Name: 14 Acres Vineyard Reservation Notifications

Type of messages: Transactional only (reservation confirmations, payment links, payment receipts). We do NOT send promotional or marketing SMS.

Message Frequency: Variable, based on each customer’s interaction. A typical reservation involves 2 to 4 SMS messages.

Message and Data Rates: Standard message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan. 14 Acres does not charge for the messages.

Age Requirement: All recipients must be 21 years of age or older, as 14 Acres is an alcohol-serving establishment. Age is verified verbally during the initial phone call to our virtual receptionist.

Supported Carriers: Major US carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, and others. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Opt-Out and Help

To opt out: Reply STOP, CANCEL, END, QUIT, UNSUBSCRIBE, REVOKE, or STOPALL to any message from us. You will receive a final confirmation message and will not receive further SMS messages from this program.

To opt back in: Reply START.

  3. Reservation not available: “14 Acres Vineyard and Winery: Hi Maria, unfortunately we don’t have availability for your requested seating at this time. You are still very welcome to visit us during regular hours. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.”
  4. Internal staff confirmation: “14 Acres Vineyard and Winery: Maria Lopez (21+ verified) paid the $50 deposit. Reservation confirmed for Sat May 23, 7 PM, party of 4, outside seating. Internal staff notification. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.”
  5. Final confirmation: “14 Acres Vineyard and Winery: Hi Maria, payment received. Your reservation for Sat May 23 at 7 PM is confirmed. You verified 21+ at booking. We hold tables 15 min past reservation time. See you soon! Reply STOP to unsubscribe.”
